Selling my things

Today I have been loosely planning my journey. I started out with the joy of list-making. It was nice to get some of it on paper. Then I went online and started selling stuff I don’t need at the moment, like games, books, cameras, parts of my old computer and so on. I will later sell my TV, Xbox and some other stuff that I do need right now. It feels really good, like a step in the right direction.

Guide To Visiting Sweden

I got some good response on Couchsurfing for my very small “Teach, Learn, Share” box about Sweden and I got a request to write some more and since this blog is about traveling I decided to write a little.  So here it is.  Keep reading →

Books of Inspiration

I recently ordered some books online and just got an e-mail telling me I’m going to get them tomorrow and now I’m really excited to start reading and get some inspiration and maybe helpful tips. The two most interesting of the four books are Vagabonding by Rolf Potts and Work Your Way Around The World by Susan Griffith. So as I said, I am looking forward to getting these and when I start reading them I’ll write a review.

Job Hunting: Operation Norway

So I just started searching for jobs in Norway just for fun. I wasn’t writing the best CV’s, instead I just sent out random presentations and a litte bit of my work experience. I searched mainly for jobs like driving forklift-trucks since I have a license for almost all types of forklifts, but also sent some CV’s to other companys. When just 15 minutes had passed I already got a response. We talked a little bit back and forth over e-mail and I was invited to come for an interview when I got to Norway. So the rumors are true, they are really handing out jobs. I am really excited right now to go there and live the cheap life and bring in a lot of money. For example, without any previous work-experience, one can get an hourly wage of 140 NOK ($27.50).

I am now really reachable

Just downloaded a great program called Digsby which collects all your IM’s, e-mail and social networks into one. Started out with just MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and Facebook, but as the nerd I am, I had to get more. So after signing up on different pages, I am now available at MSN, Yahoo, Facebook, Google Talk, AOL, ICQ and Twitter. Funny thing is that I don’t have the need to be that available and I won’t use half of them. But hey, maybe it will be useful some time.

The Art of Free Accommodation

I just had my first couchsurfers staying here the last couple of days. It was very fun and interesting and I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did. So for those who don’t know what I’m talking about, Couchsurfing is a hospitality-service and it offers free accommodation through out the world. So if you are backpacking or just traveling you could spend the night at someones place for free. It’s a nice way to meet new people.

This last thursday, I got a visit from four surfers, two from the U.S. and two from Germany. They were really nice people and we had a great time relaxing, making pizza, playing Guitar Hero and watching a movie. Too bad they couldn’t stay longer so I could show them around, as the U.S. surfers only stayed one night and the germans two nights.

So I recommend Couchsurfing to anyone who is interested in meeting people, cultural exchanges and who just wants a great time. Good luck!

What will I do with my life?

I’m a guy, who just turned twenty years old. As a matter of fact, I turned twenty today.  I live in Malmö, Sweden and I load trains with cargo for a living. I’m interested in traveling, photography and meeting new people. So I finally decided to start a blog and here it is.

I have for a long time wanted to leave the country I live in (Sweden) to travel the world for a long time. Many times I thought about moving to another country to work and in a way, start a new life. Now that plan has changed. I want to become a vagabond and travel the whole world instead. I want to, sort of, live like a bum. Do whatever it takes to get money, hitchhike, meet new people, be independent and so on.

So I will quit my job, break the ties and get rid of my apartment. This is everything I think about, every day. I am deeply afraid of getting stuck and afraid of living the life you are supposed to live. That is, getting a good job, getting a family, house, wife, kids and so on. I don’t want to do that. At least, not yet.

Right now I am in the planning stage. Deciding what countries I have to visit, except those i will be visiting spontaneously. I don’t know what to do about the money though, how much I will be needing if I can’t find a job in another country. So I’m planning on moving to Norway to work a couple of months before going on my journey to get some hard cash.

There is so much I want to write right now, but let’s end this post here so it doesn’t become a book.
